Presentation on Veterans Issues at Camp Hope by Colonel Ann Wright,Michael McPhearson,ExDir of Veterans for Peace and author Stephen Kinzer. To help build popular momentum behind the progressive goals of President Obama’s campaign, Camp Hope will be a 19-day presence, from January 1 – 19, 2009, in Hyde Park, Chicago: "Camp Hope: Countdown To Change." Every day from New Years’ to Dr. Martin Luther King Day, whatever winter has in store, Camp Hope will be set up at the intersection of East Hyde Park Boulevard and South Drexel Avenue to congratulate Senator Obama as our new President-elect and recommit ourselves to progressive actions he promoted on his campaign trail. We are urging President-elect Obama to take eight actions immediately upon being sworn into office, and reminding ourselves that these are only eight early steps to more profound policy changes. We will begin with a Prisoner Procession and nine-day fast on January 11, 2009, which marks seven years since the opening of the prison at Guantánamo. And then, from January 20 with the inauguration of the next President through April 30, we will maintain a regular schedule of activities. At the end of the 100 days, we hope to celebrate both the closure of the detention facility at Guantánamo and the adoption of policies and laws that decisively ban torture by the U.S. government.

Saturday, Sept. 11, The Temple to Goddess Spirituality, Cactus Springs, NV "Our Grief is Still Not a Cry for War: A Day of Solidarity and Remembrance in Memory of Civilians and Soldiers" The Eyes Wide Open memorial boots and shoes will be on exhibition all day as focus for reflection and remembrance. U.S. military personnel from Nevada who were killed in either Afghanistan or Iraq are represented by a pair of boots with a name tag. Civilians killed are represented by pairs of shoes with names of a small portion of those killed. The public is invited for all or some of the activities.
